The East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) is an institution of the East African Community (EAC) responsible for the coordination and promotion of the development and use of Kiswahili in the region and beyond. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT
(REF: EAKC/AD/ST/002)

Reports to: Executive Secretary

Duration of Contract: 3 Months

Duty Station: Zanzibar, Tanzania

Main Purpose of the Job:
The main purpose of this job is to facilitate efficient and effective Information Management in the Commission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform the network and system administrator tasks for EAKC networks (intranet/internet), computer equipment and software; 

Carry out and supervise the maintenance tasks on the ICT systems and devices (computer network and devices, printers, scanners, photocopiers, software, telephones and projector);
Advice the management of the Commission on the required ICT supplies and services to procure and hire;
Ensure data backup for EAKC; 

Set up and configuring new laptops and desktops; 

Ensure security and upgrades are applied and kept up to date on laptops and desktops; 

Patching of network and phones; 

Planning and undertaking scheduled maintenance upgrades; 

Provide technical assistance to office staff as needed; 

Assist in maintaining internet service, firewalls, and telephone systems; 

Assist in software and hardware upgrade
Support conferences/meetings organized by EAKC by setting up and managing the conference/meeting portal, website registration/confirmation of participants (attendees, speakers, etc.) and social media etc.;
Develop and manage web based Kiswahili learning platform;
Oversee the overall day-to-day management, maintenance, and updating of the EAKC web portal and;
Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Executive Secretary.
Minimum Requirements:
Academic/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent;

System and Network Administration Certificates.
Work Experience: 

Relevant working experience of not less than 3 years in IT related field.

Skills and Competencies:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Self-motivated with ability to work with minimum supervision.
Education Qualifications:
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.

Relevant Work Experience:
Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.

Main Purpose of the Job:
The Commission would like to hire on short-term basis an accomplished Kiswahili scholar to proof-read and edit paper manuscripts with a view to publishing them.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Proof-read and edit conference papers into publications;
Check and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting and general clarity of submitted papers;
Correspond with authors of submitted papers;
Establish consistent terminology, abbreviations and references across the contributions of many different scholars writing on widely varying topics;
Advise on the suitability of manuscripts for publication;
Treat all authors with fairness, courtesy, objectivity, honesty and transparency;
Protect the confidentiality of every author’s work;
Establish a procedure for reconsidering editorial decisions;
Ensure timely publication of accepted manuscripts;
Any other related duties as may be assigned by the Executive Secretary.
Minimum Requirements:
Academic Qualifications:
At least a PhD in Kiswahili Studies (Linguistics; Literature or Education) or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized University;
Multi-disciplinary background is necessary.
Work Experience:
At least ten (10) years of experience, of which five (5) should be at Senior Level in Kiswahili research, writing or any other relevant field;
Competence in Kiswahili research and publications;
Experience in proof-reading, editing and publishing.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent writing and communication skills in Kiswahili and English;
Ability to work in a multi- cultural/diverse environment;
Capacity to meet tight schedules and deadlines.

WORLD VISION TANZANIA  is a Christian relief development and advocacy non- government organization dedicated to working with children families and communications to overcome poverty and injustice

With the understanding that only when families have economic security can they turn their attention to the need of their children WVT has developed and launched a resilient small holder farmer strategy.  The strategy seeks to improve the livelihoods of 155,000 Tanzanian small – holder farmers house hold and through increase production and productivity while promoting sustainable use of natural resource and connecting farmers to market and access to credits

To implement the aforesaid strategic vision is launching a world vision Tanzania Academy internship program to build critical mass of hands- on agribusiness expert that would be used to build the capacity of farmers in conducting agriculture as business.  The broad goal is to support skills transfer mindset change and technological knowhow that will help small farmers adopt innovations improve productivity and catalyze agricultural system transformation thus contributing to improve food security and income of small scale farmers for the wellbeing of their children

QUALIFICATIONS

-          Fresh graduates from a recognize university or academic institutions preferred with a degree in BSC IN AGROOMY/ LIVESTOCK/ANIMAL SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE GENERAL
